DR. TOMER GAZIT (PhD)

Dr. Gazit's research attempts to merge different approaches in understanding the human brain with the primary end goal of providing patients with new ways to diagnose and treat their condition. In his work he applies state of the art neuroimaging and electrophysiology techniques at multiple levels of investigation; from the scale of single neuron firing patterns, to intracranial & extracranial EEG, to whole brain fMRI.

Dr. Gazit leads the #Brain Informatics & Imaging research team, and an associate investigator of the #Neuropsychiatry & Neuromodulation and the #Advanced Brain Imaging research teams at the Sagol Brain Institute.

My research attempts to merge different approaches to understanding the human brain with the primary end goal of providing patients with new ways to diagnose and treat their condition. In our work we apply state of the art neuroimaging and electrophysiology across different scales, from the recording of single neuron firing patterns to intracranial and extracranial EEG to fMRI.

Using these techniques we study the neural processes mediating responses and expectations regarding rewards and punishments, allowing for the development of new solutions to related dysfunctions such as addiction and depression. We also develop new ways to control deep brain activity using neurofeedback, investigate the neural network malformations that lead to epileptic seizures and develop new imaging tools to guide neurosurgery.
